If This Is Love

If this is love, why does it feel so bad?
When every cake is bitter sweet
And sometimes poison tastes like meat.

If this is love, why does it feel so bad?
When every bard who knew the plot
Foretold the end but then forgot.

If this is love, why does it feel so bad?
From every seed put in the ground
Arose a rose that got cut down.

If this is love, why does it feel so bad?
There never was a better time
To forge a chain to free the mind.

If this is love, why does it feel so bad?
A sunny clime is often grey
No matter what the brochures say.

If this is love, why does it feel so bad?
The label's missing from the jar,
It looks like jam but tastes like tar.
